A 33-year-old woman was charged Thursday with two counts of attempted murder after she allegedly poisoned her estranged husband’s wine with ethylene glycol, according to an arrest warrant from the Connecticut State Police.
Kristen Hogan was also charged with one count of interfering with an officer, according to the same arrest warrant. The alleged male victim, reportedly identified as Hogan’s husband, alleges that she poisoned him. He told police he had family over for dinner on Aug. 5 and opened a bottle of wine, then corked the remaining wine and put it in his refrigerator.
On Aug. 7, he arrived at Danbury Superior Court in response to a complaint filed by Hogan, who was also supposed to appear, but did not show up. The alleged victim received a notification that Hogan’s cell phone was uploading data to the Wi-Fi router at his home while waiting for her to appear, the documents stated.
On Aug. 10, her husband drank some wine from the same bottle he’d opened on Aug. 5. He woke up in the middle of the night feeling increasingly ill and began vomiting. The alleged victim’s mother also found him slurring his words and staggering before he went to the hospital, according to the same arrest warrant. While the doctors initially thought he might be having a stroke, he told police they later suspected he was experiencing symptoms of ethylene glycol poisoning.
Ridgefield Police collected the wine as evidence and submitted it to the Connecticut Forensic Laboratory for further testing after the alleged victim accused Hogan of poisoning him. Testing confirmed “obvious amounts” of ethylene glycol were found in the wine. (RELATED: Two Dead In Alabama After Mass Shooting Following Football Game)
Hogan and her husband have been separated since May, according to NBC Connecticut. During their investigation, police found search queries on Hogan’s phone asking “how much ethylene glycol would kill you?,” the outlet reported. She also purportedly admitted to buying mono-ethylene glycol and pouring it into the wine, and an iced tea bottle on a separate occasion, because she wanted her husband to feel sick, according to the warrant.
The alleged victim told police he believed Hogan wanted him dead so she could have full custody of their child, according to the documents. The same arrest warrant indicates the child had been unexplainably sick and hospitalized. Hogan denied harming the child, however.
Hogan is currently being held on $1,000,000 bond, according to the same arrest warrant.
