Amazon Prime Day is such powerful branding that even Amazon can’t contain it. Technically, the two-day sale event that kicks off the holiday shopping season on October 7 and 8 is known as Big Deal Days, but no one we know is calling it that. It’s October Prime Day, Autumnal Prime Day, Fall Prime Day, Prime Day II, or Prime Day Part Deux for the diehard Jim Abrams fans among us.
Whatever name you call it, this sales event will flood your feeds over the next 48ish hours. WIRED has spent the last several weeks combing embargoed spreadsheets to compile a helpful guide to the absolute best Prime Day deals on the gear our team of reviewers has tested, but we also like to take this occasion to do a little old-school web loggin’, offering helpful commentary on prices, trends, and the general state of American capitalism. Stay tuned through the closing bell for said commentary.

This Concentrate is How I Made My Prime Day Coffee in 30 Seconds
I have long admitted that I am the opposite of a coffee snob. I love a fancy pour-over or French press, but I’ll happily chug whatever coffee-adjacent beverage I can get in the morning—so long as there’s caffeine. The Javvy coffee concentrate was a pleasant surprise (to myself and some of my snobbier co-testers). Add a splash into some water, pop in your chosen creamer, and you’ll get a perfectly fine morning brew in no more than 30 seconds of your time. I like all of the flavors I’ve tried, and I like it best iced (though it can also be served hot). It’s especially handy for camping. And Mondays. And Prime Day at 4:30 in the morning. (And I didn’t have to wait two days to get it. Sorry, Martin!)
Your Next Favorite Vegan Protein Just Dropped in Price
If you’ve sworn off protein powders for being gritty or gross, give this one a shot. I’ve been through more tubs of vanilla protein powder than I can count. Most of them are chalky, clumpy, or too sweet. Orgain’s Organic Vegan Protein is the rare exception. It’s also our favorite vegan protein powder for its simple formula: a blend of pea, brown rice, chia, and mung bean proteins, which together cover all nine essential amino acids (not always given with plant-based powders). Each scoop gives you 21 grams of protein, plus 4 grams of fiber. At 15 grams of carbs per serving, it’s higher in carbs than some other competitors, but those extra carbs make it more satisfying. Personally, I like it blended with almond milk, frozen berries, and a couple of spoons of hemp seeds.
The Best MacBook At The Best Price
You really can’t beat the current edition Apple MacBook with an M4 processor. It’s thin but sturdy, very powerful, and now supports two 4K monitors for desktop comfort.
Pressed to kvetch about it, our reviewer points out that it only charges from one side in a 9/10 review.
Prime Day saves $200 off the price, which is as good a deal as you’re likely to see all day.
But First, A Coffee Post
Good morning from WIRED’s virtual Prime Day headquarters, where we will be web logging Prime Day all day (and again tomorrow). I am about to make my first purchase of the event, which has been my first purchase of several Prime Days past, nabbing this 12-pack of canned Starbucks espresso for less than a buck a can. This will save me five dollars—or, I suppose you could say, get me five free cans.
