DEVELOPING: President Trump Says he is Speaking with Russia’s Putin Ahead of Friday Meeting with Ukraine’s Zelensky, Discussions to Supply Tomahawk Missiles to NATO and Ukraine

President Trump on Thursday announced on Truth Social that he is having a “lengthy” conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This comes ahead of a meeting on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

Earlier this week, while on Air Force One en route to the Middle East, Trump told reporters that he was in talks with NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to sell Tomahawk missiles to NATO, which would then be sent to Ukraine.

“They’d like to have tomahawks. We talked about that, and so we’ll see,” Trump said. “I think I might speak to Russia about that, in all fairness. I told that to President Zelensky because Tomahawks are a new step of aggression.”

He continued, “I might say, look, if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them tomahawks.”

During a press conference in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump was asked if he is considering other options “shy of Tomahawks” and for more details on his meeting with Zelensky. “We’re looking at other options, we are. President Zelensky is coming in. I’m not a fan of the war,” Trump said, explaining that Zelensky wants the weapons to launch attacks on Russia.

“We’ll be talking about the war with him, and we’ll be talking about, I mean, they want to go offensive. I’ll make a determination on that, but they would like to go offensive, you know that. And we’ll have to make a determination.”

Trump is likely discussing this move with Putin currently.

The President announced on Truth Social,

I am speaking to President Putin now. The conversation is ongoing, a lengthy one, and I will report the contents, as will President Putin, at its conclusion. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

This is a developing story.
