Grieving Parents Claim Foreign National Allegedly Killed Their Son, State Police Released Him

A Virginia family is “seeking answers” after an Oct. 5 car accident allegedly involving a foreign national ended with one son dead and another in an intensive care unit (ICU), according to a statement from the family.

Levi Gonderman shared the details of the crash in an X thread Thursday on behalf of his in-laws, the Jacksons. (RELATED: Illegal Trucker Accused Of Killing Three Was Given Commercial Driver’s License By California)

The post said the Jacksons’ sons — 21-year-old Zane, 16-year-old Toby and 14-year-old Boaz — were heading home from a Ninja Warrior competition in Northern Virginia. Zane was driving his brothers home on Interstate 95 south through Caroline County when the first of two alleged accidents occurred, the statement claimed.

The thread cites an unnamed witness who saw a driver fly by at top speeds before allegedly sideswiping the Jacksons’ car without braking. The car’s airbags deployed and its fuel pump was cut off, leaving the car stalled in its lane while the other driver pulled over roughly a quarter-mile up the road, according to the statement.

Apart from slight burns, the Jacksons’ sons were initially fine, according to the post. They turned on their hazard lights and called 911, and the dispatcher stayed on the line with the boys.

The family alleged that more than a minute after the first accident, a semi-truck struck the Jacksons’ vehicle.

“Zane passed sometime after. Boaz was unconscious with a traumatic brain injury. Toby had a minor fracture in his back. He was conscious and saw the whole thing. Toby saw Zane bleeding from the mouth and knew he was going to die. He then focused on trying to keep Boaz alive,” the post said.

Citing Toby, the family claimed he ran to the truck driver and tried to get him to call 911. Toby said the “truck driver barely spoke English and instead handed [him] the phone to talk to 911 dispatchers himself,” according to the thread.

The statement alleged the driver was a foreign national from Minneapolis, and he told police his dashcam had been broken for over a month.

“We have been extremely disappointed with how Virginia State Police handled the accident that night,” the family’s statement read.

“Within a few hours of arriving at the hospital, the trooper that worked the scene met us. She told us that she believed Zane was at fault and she had cleared the other two drivers involved to leave the scene. She believed the other drivers over Toby,” the statement continued.

Virginia State Police said the accident is under investigation, according to ABC 8News on Oct. 8. At the time, investigators believed Zane may have struck another vehicle before stopping on the highway, where the brothers were then hit by a truck, the outlet reported.

The family said they were “furious,” claiming the trooper “did not call dispatch to find out if any witnesses had called in, nor did she call the Accident Reconstruction Team to investigate the scene while all parties were present.”

“The vehicles should have been impounded and a proper investigation done. She had us believe Zane was at fault and then left us to our grief,” the post alleged. (RELATED: FBI Announces 15 Arrests In Transnational Scheme Duping Innocent Elderly People)

Still grieving over Zane’s death, the family said they have been camping out in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) “praying for a miracle.” Boaz’s “future is uncertain,” and he is suffering from a severe brain injury.

The Jackson family raised more than $50,000 through a GoFundMe as they prepare for Zane’s funeral on Friday.

The Virginia State Police have not yet returned the Daily Caller’s request for a statement on their understanding of the case, records on the incident, and details concerning the immigration status of the truck driver.
