Israel war: Israeli Education Ministry strips Greta Thunberg of ‘role model’ status

Israel’s Ministry of Education stripped climate activist Greta Thunberg of her status as an “education role model” following the 20-year-old’s demand for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas terrorists.

“Hamas is a terrorist organization responsible for the murder of 1,400 innocent Israelis, including children, women, and the elderly, and it has abducted over 200 people to Gaza,” the ministry said, according to a report.

“This stance disqualifies her from being an educational and moral role model, and she is no longer eligible to serve as an inspiration and educator for Israeli students,” it added.

Disqualifying Thunberg as an “education role model” will see the removal of any mention of Thunberg from school curricula, the report noted.

Thunberg has not decried the attacks against Israel, and on Oct. 20, she shared an image of herself holding a “STAND WITH GAZA” sign.

“Week 270. Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza,” the post on X said. “The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected. #FreePalestine #IStandWithPalestine #StandWithGaza #FridaysForFuture.”

Other leaders in climate activism have decried Thunberg’s actions.

“Greta Thunberg is the most well-known climate activist in the world today,” the Israel Union for Environmental Defense, known as Adam Teva V’Din, said in a statement. “In her influential position, Greta has expressed a one-sided and inconsistent stance, completely ignoring the cruel acts endured by Israeli citizens and the abduction of hundreds of people.”

It added, “Due to her position, when Greta addresses a different topic superficially and dismissively, it inevitably weakens the validity of her climate-related positions.”
