A swarm of bees got loose inside a car and prompted a Saturday morning crash that left the driver hospitalized and killed one pedestrian in Arizona, authorities said.
The unidentified driver was transporting bees that escaped and stung them, prompting the driver to lose control amid a medical crisis, AZ Family.com reported, citing officials. The driver struck a pole and a pedestrian in the area of Mesa Drive and McKellips Road at approximately 9 a.m. local time, the Mesa Police Department (MPD) told the Daily Caller.
First responders transported both the driver and the pedestrian to a local hospital, though the pedestrian later died from his injuries, police said. The driver suffered minor wounds, Fox 10 reported. “There are no pending charges for the driver,” the MPD told the Caller.
This is not the first time a bee attack has prompted a car crash.
Steven Daniel was attacked by bees while mowing after he disturbed a nest in the vicinity of a vacant building in May, KTXS 12 reported, citing an Eastland Police report. The bees swarmed Daniel and stung him, following him into his truck as he tried to drive away, which caused him to crash. Eastland Police Department officers were able to get Daniel out of his truck and into an ambulance, but his breathing stopped on the way to the hospital, according to an agency release, USA Today reported.
