On Monday, Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife Usha, visited veterans at Walter Reed Hospital to honor veterans and military personnel receiving care ahead of Veterans Day.

The Vances spoke with patients and providers, learning about their injuries and treatment plans, and sharing challenge coins.

The Vice President told one patient, “We’ll be rooting for you. It’s seriously amazing. I really admire your spirit. Every time I’m bitching about my job, I’ll remember this guy.”

Impressed with the hard work of the patients at various stages of recovery, he joked, “This is all a conspiracy to shame me for not going to the gym more. You have all these guys who have rough injuries and their all busting their ass…no excuses anymore.”

As they watched combat-wounded U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Carlos Evans perform physical therapy exercises, Vance took a moment for some light-hearted teasing.

A therapist tossed Sgt. Evans a ball and, rather than tossing it back, he sent it to an unprepared Veep who chuckled at the surprise.

“Really put me on the spot!”

Evans replied, “Sorry, sorry!”

Vance, still chuckling, added, “Really put me on the spot. If I had dropped it, man, what a dipshit I would have looked like here.”

As everyone enjoyed the moment, a laughing Vance jokingly turned to the others in the room and quipped, “Somebody call the Secret Service on this guy!”
