October 27, 2023 01:14 PM

Dude Wipes customers have through Friday to file an objection or exclusion from a $9 million class-action settlement with the company.

Some consumers accused the company of making them believe its wipes were “flushable” when they were not. Dude Products has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to this settlement to avoid litigation with the group of consumers. The exclusion and objection deadline has been set for Oct. 27.

The deadline for customers to file a claim to receive a piece of the up to $9 million settlement is Nov. 11. Those who purchased the wipes between Feb. 5, 2015, and Aug. 8, 2023, are eligible for the settlement

The court has scheduled a final approval hearing for Nov. 16, when customers may speak regarding the proposed settlement. If a customer agrees to the settlement, he or she will be bound to the terms of the agreement and will give up certain rights to levy claims against the company, according to the court. More information about the settlement can be found on the website, which was authorized by the court.

To receive a payment, an affected customer must file a claim in the settlement. Affected customers can claim up to $0.50 per product, with a maximum of five per household without proof of purchase and a maximum of 40 per household with proof of purchase. The court said customers filing a claim may submit either with proof of purchase or without proof of purchase but not both.

A different class-action settlement with a deadline soon is for Capital One customers after a hacker gained access to millions of customers’ personal information. The deadline to claim a piece of that settlement is Nov. 27.
