Actress Jamie Lee Curtis offered her endorsement of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) Friday amid his senatorial campaign.
Schiff’s campaign sent out a signed statement from Curtis via email. He is up against Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Katie Porter (D-CA), who all announced they were running following the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in September. Since then, former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres first baseman Steve Garvey announced his campaign as a Republican candidate.

“As a lifelong Californian, I’ve had the great privilege of being represented by some incredible United States Senators,” Curtis’s statement read. “And one common quality that each of them has had — one I can very much say that my friend Adam Schiff shares — is this: They know they work for us, not the other way around.”
Curtis, 64, is outspoken on LGBT issues, but the statement marked a new side of the actress that is willing to publicly back politicians. According to Curtis, “many of the most important fights we face as a country will be waged in the United States Senate.” The actress got her breakout role in the horror film Halloween over 40 years ago.
The race is more crowded than ever since Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) appointed political strategist Laphonza Butler to replace Feinstein in the Senate through the 2024 election. Newsom had long implied he was only searching for an interim replacement. However, Newsom’s office confirmed to the Washington Examiner that there will not be a “precondition” that this replacement is in the Senate only temporarily. As a result, Butler could run to keep the seat beyond 2024.

“As MAGA Republicans attack transgender children, LGBTQ equality, abortion rights, and ban books, I’m grateful we have a leader like Adam who will always stand up to the people abusing their power,” Curtis wrote. “Whether it’s [former President Trump,] big corporations, or special interests — Adam stands up for what’s right.”
Schiff also has the support of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Meanwhile, some 19 Democratic House members have endorsed Lee in her bid for the Senate.
