The driver crashed into the terminal just before 8 p.m. EST. CBS News Detroit captured footage showing the vehicle inside the building near the Delta Airlines check-in area. The driver exited the car moments later with his hands raised, appearing disoriented as airport security and officials rushed to the debris-strewn scene, WXYZ reported.
“The response was so quick thank God with the cops and TSA and everybody,” traveler Ali Khalifa told the outlet. “That all happened in seconds.”
Footage circulating on social media showed the unidentified man, wearing a Detroit Lions jersey, screaming incoherently as a handful of security officers restrained and escorted him away. Investigators have not yet explained how the sedan breached the terminal entrance, though photos showed metal barricades positioned in front of the shattered glass doors.
“Our team is gathering information, and we hope to have an update shortly,” airport officials said, according to WDIV.
Delta Airlines said the incident caused no injuries and did not affect flight operations, CBS News reported. Emergency responders evaluated three employees after they came into contact with debris.
The Delta Airlines and Wayne County Airport Authority did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
