The White House will hold a news conference with National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Monday afternoon.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will host the press conference, which comes as war rages in the Middle East between Hamas and Israel.

The war is dividing the country both in Congress and across cities and college campuses. The House will return to session on Wednesday with the expectation to consider a number of Israel-related bills as some Republicans remain split on whether to wrap up funding for the Jewish state with funding for Israel.

Democrats also are facing infighting as members of the progressive “Squad” group have called for a ceasefire and expressed disdain with President Joe Biden’s unequivocal support of Israel during the nation’s counterattacks against Hamas in Gaza.

Biden implored Netanyahu to allow more protection of innocent lives and “significantly increase the flow of humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of civilians in Gaza, according to a White House readout of a Sunday phone call between the two leaders.

The press briefing will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Monday.
