Boebert claims ‘lawfare’ is Democrats’ choice of attack for 2024

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called on Republicans to fight back against “lawfare” on Monday, claiming it is the attack of choice for Democrats against former President Donald Trump leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

Boebert said the effort to keep Trump off the ballot in Colorado, which started in court on Monday, is an attempt to overturn the “will of the American people.” Oral arguments in a similar effort to keep Trump off the ballot in Minnesota will be heard by Minnesota’s Supreme Court on Thursday.

COURT CHALLENGES TO KEEP TRUMP OFF 2024 ELECTION BALLOTS BEGIN IN TWO STATES

“Any effort to keep President Trump off the ballot in Colorado or any other state are pathetic attempts at overturning the will of the American people,” Boebert posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“It has become clear that lawfare will be the Left’s preferred method of battle in 2024 and our job is to fight back against it at every turn. With the federal government so weaponized against our side, the need to take back the White House has never been so critical.”

The Colorado lawsuit, which was filed in September, cites a Civil War-era provision of the 14th Amendment that blocks people who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and later “engaged in insurrection” from holding higher office. Trump has not been convicted of insurrection, but the lawsuit claims Trump “instigated” the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill.

A spokesperson for the former commander in chief dismissed the effort as “absurd” and claimed there was no “legal basis” for keeping Trump off the ballot.

“The people who are pursuing this absurd conspiracy theory and political attack on President Trump are stretching the law beyond recognition much like the political prosecutors in New York, Georgia, and DC. There is no legal basis for this effort except in the minds of those who are pushing it,” Steven Cheung, spokesman for Trump, said in a previous statement to the Washington Examiner.

Democrats have been accused of trying to keep Trump off the campaign trail next year by burying him with legal cases and court appearances. The former president has been indicted on criminal charges four times, and he faces at least 91 felony charges. Trump has pleaded “not guilty” to every count.

Boebert endorsed Trump for president in 2024 over Republican challengers Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and other candidates.
