FBI Arrests Suspected Accomplice To Former Olympian And Alleged Drug Kingpin

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested a Canadian man Feb. 9 over suspected ties to former Olympian Ryan Wedding’s alleged drug ring, officials said.

FBI and Border Patrol agents apprehended Tommy Demorizi, 35, at Newark Liberty International Airport, the Toronto Star reported, citing the bureau. An FBI spokesperson confirmed he was traveling from the Dominican Republic, where he was suspected to be hiding, when federal agents arrested him.

A federal district court in Los Angeles, California issued a warrant for Demorizi’s arrest on Oct. 28, 2025, the FBI said on its website. Prosecutors charged him with Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Conspiracy to Export Cocaine, Conspiracy to Retaliate Against a Witness, Victim, or an Informant and Retaliation Against a Witness, Victim, or an Informant and other counts.

Demorizi is accused of paying musician Edwin Basora-Hernandez as much as $1,000 in return for Jonathan Acebedo Garcia’s contact information, according to the Toronto Star. Acebedo Garcia was expected to testify in a case against Wedding, who was arrested and charged by the Justice Department with overseeing a criminal venture in November 2025.

Wedding knew Acebedo Garcia was the informant after the FBI unsealed charges against him and multiple alleged co-conspirators, court documents alleged. Wedding then allegedly put a bounty of up to $5 million on Acebedo Garcia and recruited multiple people to track him down and murder him. Hit men allegedly employed by Wedding fatally shot Acebedo Garcia on Jan. 31, 2025. (RELATED: Convicted Squatter’s Lawyer Freezes, Asks to ‘Cut’ When Pressed To Defend Client)

Demorizi’s is the 37th arrest linked to Wedding’s alleged criminal enterprise, according to the Toronto Star. During a November 2025 news conference, FBI Director Kash Patel alleged Wedding was comparable to past drug kingpins, the Montreal Gazette reported.

“Make no mistake about it, Ryan Wedding is the modern-day iteration of Pablo Escobar. He is the modern-day iteration of El Chapo Guzman,” Patel told reporters. Attorney General Pam Bondi alleged Wedding was the “largest distributor of cocaine in Canada” during the same news conference.

The Daily Caller contacted the FBI, who did not immediately comment on Demorizi’s arrest.
