An 18-year-old in Fort Worth, Texas, was arrested Monday for the alleged murder of a friend who refused to share his fries, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The alleged shooting followed a Jan. 28 argument between two friends, according to a police statement. Police said the argument was over an order of french fries that the victim did not want to share with the suspect, and the argument escalated to an allegedly fatal shooting.
Lemarques Darden was arrested Monday for the alleged murder, the Star-Telegram reported, citing jail records. He is being held in the Tarrant County Corrections Center. (RELATED: Meet The True Villain Of The Winter Olympics)
Witnesses told an investigating officer that Darden was involved in an argument with Jarvis Davis in an apartment, according to an affidavit obtained by the Daily Caller.
“During the argument, Darden made statements referencing the use of a firearm,” the affidavit said, citing a witness.
The witness heard a single gunshot and saw Davis “slumped over on the couch bleeding from his eye,” according to the affidavit.
Another witness told a separate investigator that she had seen Darden holding a handgun immediately after the shot and observed him fleeing the apartment, according to the affidavit.
Forensics and further testimony appeared to corroborate the witnesses’ statements, investigators noted.
Davis’ mother, Sherika Kennedy, called the death of her son “senseless,” adding that Darden and Davis had been friends and neighbors, according to local affiliate Fox 4 News.
“How it happened, I will never be OK with that. I’m never going to be OK with that,” Kennedy continued. “I know my baby was probably genuinely his friend. My baby was not expecting him to shoot him. Everybody in the house thought he was joking about the fries.”
A bond has not yet been placed on Darden, jail records show.
