Left-wing group attacking black GOP candidate as Uncle Tom took $2M from George Soros

A left-wing super PAC behind a radio ad likening a black candidate to an Uncle Tom pocketed a combined $2 million in recent years from Democratic megadonor George Soros, records show.
Black Voters Matter Action PAC has been running an ad in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, that accuses Republican gubernatorial hopeful Daniel Cameron, the Bluegrass State’s attorney general, of being “Uncle Daniel Cameron” while noting that “all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk.” The super PAC received the cash transfers between 2020 and 2022 through the billionaire’s Democracy PAC and Democracy PAC II, according to campaign finance disclosures.

“What’s up, Kentucky?” the ad says. “It’s election time, and all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk. Over the past few years, we’ve taken to the streets to demand racial justice, to demand healthcare, and the right to make decisions about our body.”
“And now, Uncle Daniel Cameron is threatening to take us backwards. The same man who refused to seek justice for Breonna Taylor now wants to run our whole state,” the ad says, also instructing voters to punch the ticket for Cameron’s Democratic opponent, Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY).
Black Voters Matter PAC notably spent at least $141,000 in 2022 to boost Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in his since-successful race against the scandal-plagued Republican candidate Herschel Walker and paid tens of thousands of dollars to Elias Law Group, a firm founded by Democratic superlawyer and Trump-Russia hoax proponent Marc Elias. Black Voters Matter PAC is affiliated with an advocacy dark money group with the same leaders, including director Cliff Albright, records show.
In response to the ad, Cameron said it was “racist and hateful.”
“I believe here in Kentucky you shouldn’t be judged by the color of your skin but by the content of your character,” Cameron said. “The same cannot be said of Joe Biden, out-of-state, radical left interest groups, and the national Democrat Party, who think you can’t be black and conservative.”
Cameron added, “I never faced racism or discrimination while growing up or working in Kentucky until I decided to stand up to the national Democrat establishment. I don’t support their policies, so the Left attacks me for my skin color.”
However, upon the outlet Lexington Herald-Leader asking Beshear about the ad, he replied it came from “an African American-led PAC, so we’ll let them comment for themselves.” Outside groups spending money on ads in elections and campaigns cannot legally coordinate, meaning candidates typically do not weigh in on actions from the former.
Albright has since defended the ad, telling YouTube host Roland Martin on Saturday, “You don’t want to talk about the substance of the ad. He wanted to talk about the Uncle Daniel Cameron.”
“And technically, we didn’t call him Uncle Tom, right? To do so actually would probably be more of an insult to the actual Uncle Tom,” Albright said.

Beshear and Cameron will face off on Nov. 7 for the election.
