RFK Jr. getting more money from Trump donors than Biden donors: Report
November 01, 2023 11:06 AM
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been viewed as a potential spoiler in the 2024 election, with new data suggesting he could be taking more voters away from former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical matchup.
Kennedy’s campaign is receiving more donors from those who had previously donated to Republicans than those who had previously donated to Democrats, according to an analysis of campaign finance by Politico.

Of the $10 million Kennedy raised during the third quarter, $6.6 million came from large-dollar donors with no history of donations in the 2020 or 2016 elections. Among the remaining large-dollar donors, $2 million came from those who had a history of donating through WinRed, the GOP fundraising service, compared to $1.4 million coming from those who have a history of donating through ActBlue, the Democrat’s fundraising service.
When looking at donations to Trump and Biden in the previous cycle by current Kennedy donors, $593,000 was given to Trump in 2020, and $189,000 was given to Biden in 2020, according to the report.
Kennedy, who originally ran for the Democratic nomination in 2024 before switching to an independent run, has garnered the attention of the Republican National Committee, with RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel making a statement about the candidate shortly after he announced his independent run.
“Make no mistake — a Democrat in Independent’s clothing is still a Democrat. RFK Jr. cannot hide from his record of endorsing Hillary, supporting the Green New Deal, fighting against the Keystone Pipeline, and praising AOC’s tax hikes — he is your typical elitist liberal and voters won’t be fooled,” McDaniel said. “American families deserve commonsense leadership that will return America’s energy independence, stop Bidenflation, secure our border, and get our country back on track, which is why our Republican nominee will be the next President of the United States.”

Kennedy, along with independent presidential candidate Cornel West, has been of concern for the two major parties as they look to woo independent voters for the presidential election next fall.
Democrats are looking to avoid a situation like in 2016, where Green Party candidate Jill Stein was blamed for taking away votes in a close presidential election, while Republicans also would like to mitigate any third-party spoiler candidates in what is expected to be a close 2024 election.
