Corridor To Be Blasted With Drenching Rain As Winter-Weary Region Starts Seeing Warmer Temperatures

With warmer temperatures being dished out, it’s increasing the need for umbrellas. While a different system is making its exit, one will be bringing additional rainfall to the Interstate 95 corridor, with Pennsylvania to Massachusetts potentially seeing an extensive 1-2 inches from Thursday into Friday morning.

Interior snowfall is expected as well, with New England’s higher elevations likely to receive 3-5 inches.

Following the system delivering snow and ice Tuesday through areas of the region, a temporary pause in weather activity will be present prior to Thursday with a warm front stretching from a system of low pressure across the Midwest advancing towards the Northeast, according to the FOX Forecast Center. As air on the warmer side flows north across the I-95 corridor, rainfall will make up the majority of the precipitation, and at times, will be heavy.

It’s anticipated that rain will head through Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey in the morning hours prior to swelling north into the afternoon. As a result, cities such as New York City, Boston and Philadelphia will likely experience steady rainfall with temperatures getting to the 40s.

Warmer temperatures provide the opportunity for additional rainfall.

Further inland, there will be the lingering of cold air, particularly along New England, which will likely allow snowfall and freezing rain to form through Thursday night in areas of upstate New York’s Adirondacks, New Hampshire and Vermont’s Green and White Mountains and ultimately zones in Maine.

Overall into Friday, there will be the possibility of extensive rain totals from 1-2 inches through Pennsylvania and into New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. In Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, higher elevations are anticipated to see 3-5 inches of snow.

With a cold front approaching, there could be more rainfall over the weekend, per the FOX Forecast Center. The majority of areas, however, will likely experience rainfall because of the southerly flow and temperatures increasing to the 50s and 60s.
