Comedian Amy Schumer reacted on social media after facing backlash over her support for Israel online amid the country’s war against the terrorist organization Hamas.
The Jewish actress shared a number of posts expressing sympathy for both Israeli and Palestinian lives and received a slew of harsh comments insulting her weight, looks, and views.

She then reposted several videos, including one from British Col. Richard Kemp, that explained what a ceasefire would mean for Israel. She, however, turned off comments on the posts.
On Wednesday, she followed up with a message on Instagram responding to her critics by beginning the post with “comments on.”
“Couple things. What I want is EVERY HOSTAGE BACK. I want safety and freedom from Hamas for Palestinians and Israelis. I want safety for Jewish people and Muslims as well. Everyone,” she said.
She added, “Just like you. I want peace. You will never see me wishing harm on anyone. Saying I’m Islamophobic or that I like genocide is crazy. So here you go by popular demand. Comments on.”
Schumer continued her response to critics, addressing their calling her “a failed comic.”
“I’m the most successful female comedian of all time,” the actress said.
Josh Androsky, a senior aide to Los Angeles Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez, was among the Schumer critics and resigned this week after making Holocaust jokes about Schumer on social media.
The political podcast TrueAnon began a dialogue on social media with a vile joke.
“Amy Schumer is particularly sensitive to Jewish deaths due to her experience in the Holocaust. The Nazis named a concentration camp after her. It was called Da Cow,” TrueAnon reportedly said on X, apparently referring to Dachau, one of the first concentration camps built by Nazi Germany where thousands of Jewish people died.
The LA council aide doubled down on insults against Schumer and followed up on TrueAnon’s post with his own Holocaust joke about the concentration camp Auschwitz.
“It’s f***ed up that you would say this about her when you know it was actually Cowschwitz,” Androsky said.
Schumer responded to the body-shaming insults.
“I’m ugly/fat. Okay. Sorry you aren’t attracted to me. I found someone who is. I hope you find someone too,” she said on Instagram on Wednesday.
Comedian Amy Schumer also was criticized this week after posting a video of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speaking out against antisemitism and sharing his support for Israel.
Bernice King, the daughter of the late civil rights leader, attempted to predict King’s current political worldview by responding to Schumer and suggesting that he would have wanted a ceasefire in the conflict.

Certainly, my father was against antisemitism, as am I.
He also believed militarism (along with racism and poverty) to be among the interconnected Triple Evils.
I am certain he would call for Israel’s bombing of Palestinians to cease, for hostages to be released… https://t.co/haahcqcuAf

“Amy: Certainly, my father was against antisemitism, as am I. He also believed militarism (along with racism and poverty) to be among the interconnected Triple Evils,” King said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
She continued, “I am certain he would call for Israel’s bombing of Palestinians to cease, for hostages to be released.”
King added a video clip of her father discussing the need for withdrawing troops from the Vietnam War.
Schumer closed her Instagram response with “love” for her critics.

“We are all in a lot of pain. What hurts the most is that we all actually love each other. You hate Jews. You don’t know why. I still love you,” she said.
Frozen actor Josh Gad, whose Ashkenazi Jewish family were Holocaust survivors, was also surprised a few weeks ago when he received blowback for making arguments showing support for Israel.
