Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett lost her bid for the U.S. Senate in the March 3 Democratic primary to Texas state Rep. James Talarico.

Crockett, known for her progressive stance and membership in “The Squad,” received 45.9 percent of the vote, while Talarico secured 52.8 percent. With Crockett’s Senate run leaving her House seat open, the Democratic primary for Texas’s 30th District drew attention as a contest to fill a reliably Democratic stronghold. Rev. Frederick Haynes III, Crockett’s longtime pastor and mentor, won the primary with 72.6 percent of the vote, defeating former state Rep. Barbara Mallory Caraway (23.1 percent) and pastor Rodney LaBruce (4.3 percent). Crockett’s endorsement played a key role in Haynes’s primary win, signaling continuity in progressive representation.
