An illegal immigrant and convicted murderer who entered the United States through Texas was discovered living in state-funded housing in Massachusetts.

Jordano Gotopo-Lopez, 38, was arrested Oct. 27 while living at a migrant housing facility on Joint Base Cape Cod in Bourne, Massachusetts, according to a report citing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Gotopo-Lopez had been convicted of murder in 2006 in his native Venezuela before fleeing to America.

The wanted migrant was taken into custody because he “failed to disclose” the prior conviction when he crossed into the U.S. via Eagle Pass, Texas, in July, according to ICE.

He was processed and told to present himself to immigration personnel within 60 days, which he never did, the report noted.

Upon his arrest in Massachusetts, he confessed to his murder conviction, and he is slated to be held until he is removed from the country, ICE stated.

Finding unlawful fugitives is a commitment, according to ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons.

“The people of Massachusetts have a right to be made aware of potential risks to their public safety, especially when an unlawfully present fugitive living in housing provided by the Commonwealth, is present in their community,” he said. “ERO Boston remains committed to identifying, apprehending and seeking the removal of unlawfully present fugitives who pose a real threat to public safety.

“We will continue to safeguard our communities and fulfill our mission in Massachusetts and throughout New England. The hospitality of the people of the Commonwealth must never be taken advantage of by those who violate our immigration system and threaten the security of our residents.”
