DHS Employee Killed By Foreign-Born Individual Naturalized With A Criminal Record

An off-duty Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee was among the victims of a seemingly random killing spree Monday in Atlanta, Georgia, allegedly carried out by a foreign-born suspect with prior charges, the agency’s head said.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin revealed Wednesday that the employee, Lauren Bullis, was allegedly shot and stabbed to death by 26-year-old United Kingdom-born Olaolukitan Adon Abel.

Abel’s alleged shooting spree began around 1 a.m., when he allegedly shot and killed a woman outside a fast-food restaurant before allegedly shooting a sleeping homeless man outside a nearby grocery store around 3 a.m. The man was eventually taken to a hospital and is now in critical condition, according to Channel 2 Action News.

From there, Abel allegedly moved on to shoot and stab Bullis to death as she was walking her dog, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A neighbor said she ran outside upon hearing the gunshots and saw what appeared to be the attacker attempting to commit sexual assault on Bullis, 11Alive reported. (RELATED: Woman Alleges Eric Swalwell Drugged, Raped Her In New Scandal)

“Like I’m standing at the end of the driveway,” the neighbor said. “He didn’t care at all.”

“She was selfless, kind, and compassionate,” a family member also told 11Alive. “She deeply loved her family and found joy in running, reading, and traveling. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone surrounding her.”

Investigators eventually detained Abel, and he faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and weapons violations. Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said the attack appeared to be “completely random,” according to Fox 5.

“Based on the nature of this crime, which I will not go into the details of,” Gurley told WSB radio, “I have no doubt in my mind in my 27-year career that this individual was on his way to commit further acts of violence.”

Abel already had a prior criminal record, including sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism, Mullin said.

Mullin said Abel was naturalized by the Biden administration in 2022, while adding that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under President Donald Trump has since implemented measures restricting individuals with criminal histories or who “lack good moral character” from attaining citizenship.

“These acts of pure evil have devastated our Department, and my prayers are with the families of the victims,” Mullin said.
