JUST IN: Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons Resigns

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons submitted his resignation to DHS Chief Markwayne Mullin on Thursday, according to Fox News.

Todd Lyons was named Acting ICE Director last March.

Lyons will stay in his role until May 31 during the transition to another director.

It is unclear who will replace Lyons.

Per Fox News reporter Bill Melugin:

I’m told that Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons submitted his resignation to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin today. He will be staying on until May 31st to help with the transition. He oversaw roughly 584,000 ICE deportations since President Trump’s inauguration, and plans to go into the private sector and spend more time with his family.

Lyons has served in ICE for nearly 20 years, and previously served in the U.S. Air Force & as a city police officer. He is close with Tom Homan and has the respect of the ICE rank & file.

Earlier Thursday, CBS News reported on Lyons’ departure:

In a statement to CBS News Thursday, Mullin confirmed Lyons’ departure, saying May 31 is set to be his last official day. He wished Lyons “luck on his next opportunity in the private sector.”

“Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE and key player in helping the Trump administration remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists, and gang members from American communities,” Mullin said. “He jumpstarted an agency that had not been allowed to do its job for four years. Thanks to his leadership, American communities are safer.”
