Machado was moved to tears by the sea of people.

Peace Nobel Prize Winner Maria Corina Machado, in her European tour, has met with the leaders of France, Italy, and the Netherlands, but her latest stop in Madrid was something else.

Associated Press reported:

“The Venezuelan opposition leader drew a huge crowd in the Spanish capital’s Puerta del Sol, standing beside Madrid’s conservative regional leader Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who feted her earlier in the day.”

The exiled Machado also caused a sensation when she declined to have a meeting with Spain’s leftist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Sánchez was hosting a summit of leftist leaders, like Colombia’s Petro or Brazil’s Lula – so Machado wouldn’t touch him with a ten-foot pole.

“’What happened in the last few hours at the meeting (Sánchez) held in Barcelona with several leaders and political figures from different countries demonstrates why such a meeting was not advisable’, Machado told reporters Saturday.”

“Machado said she was coordinating with Washington on her return to Venezuela to lead a democratic transition. She backed the IMF’s renewed oversight of the economy, saying it would allow the opening of the central bank’s vaults to reveal the country’s gold reserves.

She also called for clear indications of when new elections would be held.

‘It’s very clear that at this moment, there are those who want Venezuela to be democratic and free, and those who want to maintain the current status quo … Just ask them when the elections should be held’, she said.”
