Sheriff Deputy Kicks Door Off Hinges During House Fire That Bystanders Said Won

An Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputy kicked a door off its hinges to search for potentially trapped individuals during an April 20 house fire in Colorado after bystanders claimed they were unable to enter the residence.

Body camera footage released by the ACSO and shared to its X account shows the deputy approach the home and kick the door off its hinges after local residents claimed they were unable to make contact with the people inside the home.

“I’ve been banging on the door. I can’t get whoever’s in that house out,” a resident said.

Once the deputy, identified as Deputy Ligon by the ACSO, enters the residence, he asks if anyone is inside, but does not appear to find anyone. Ligon then searches the yard, where a dog can be seen hiding under a trampoline. The fire destroyed two homes in Centennial, the ACSO said. No one was injured.

Arapahoe County is currently under a Stage 2 Burn Ban, according to an online notice from the ACSO. A Stage 2 Burn Ban prohibits outdoor fires, including campfires, fires in fire pits or outdoor wood-burning stoves, and charcoal-fueled fires, the online notice indicates. The burn ban is in effect due to “extremely high fire danger,” the ACSO said in the X post. (RELATED: Two Home Explosions Rock US Neighborhood On Same Day)
