Secret Service Officer Shot Amid White House Correspondents Dinner Shooting, Trump Says

A U.S. Secret Service officer was shot amid a shooting Saturday in the vicinity of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) but has survived, President Donald Trump said.

Trump said the officer was shot and survived at a press conference after the shooting. A source familiar told the Daily Caller a Secret Service member was shot.

“One officer was shot but saved by the fact that he was wearing obviously a very good bullet proof vest, he was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun, and the vest did the job. I just spoke to the officer and he’s doing great, he’s in great ship. He’s in very high spirits, and we told him we love him and respect him. And he’s a very proud guy, he’s very proud of what he does,” Trump said, adding that the hotel “was not a particularly secure building.” (RELATED: Trump, Cabinet Evacuated From White House Correspondents’ Dinner After Shots Fired)
