Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) criticized former president Barack Obama on Saturday for his comments in the Israel–Hamas war, slamming him as “dead wrong.”
“From Obama to Biden, Democrats have a problem: supporting Israel always has an asterisk,” Scott, who is a contender in the 2024 Republican presidential contest, told Politico.
“Obama is dead wrong and he has a legacy of aiding those who support terrorism. The truth is simple: Hamas is evil.”

Scott was likely alluding to the much maligned Iran nuclear deal, which was struck in 2015.
Scott’s criticism came after excerpts from an Obama interview with Pod Save America were released earlier in the day.
“If you want to solve the problem, then you have to take in the whole truth. And you then have to admit nobody’s hands are clean, that all of us are complicit to some degree,” he said in the excerpts.
Obama added that while Hamas’s actions on Oct. 7, in which more than 1,400 Israelis were killed, he said “the occupation and what’s happening to Palestinians” was also “unbearable.”
The Biden administration has been at pains to preach staunch support for Israel and its right to defend itself in the wake of the Hamas attacks.

President Joe Biden has dismissed calls, some from within his own party, to push for a ceasefire in the conflict. He has, along with his secretary of state Antony Blinken, pushed for a “humanitarian pause” in the fighting, partially an attempt to secure hostages who are still in Gaza.
