Around 23 people were injured following a Sunday night mass shooting at a party at Lake Arcadia in Oklahoma, according to authorities.
The shooting was reported shortly after 9 p.m. local time Sunday, and officers identified injuries with different levels of severity, including gunshot injuries, the Edmond Police Department (EPD) said Monday on X. A large group of young adults from the metro area allegedly gathered for an “unsanctioned party that began after dark” and was promoted on social media. Witnesses told KOCO that a fight at the party preceded the shooting, but police have not confirmed if this is true. Police said they were speaking with witnesses overnight.
Police said 13 people were transported to local hospitals following the shooting, and others went to hospitals using personal vehicles. Officials from Integris Health told KOCO they were caring for 13 patients from the incident. The alleged victims’ current conditions are unknown, and police have not said if anyone has died. The EPD reported 10 victims had been transported to local hospitals in its initial social media statement. No suspects are currently in custody, according to the same statement. Two men with ski masks allegedly began shooting, according to FOX 25.
EPD spokesperson Emily Ward reacted to the shooting, according to CNN. “This is obviously a very terrifying situation,” Ward said while speaking with the press at the scene. “We are working extremely hard to find these suspects and help these victims,” she added.
The EPD responded to the scene with assistance from the Oklahoma City Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the agency said on social media. The EPD is leading an active investigation, CNN reported. Ward said there was no reason to suspect any active threat to the public.
