BREAKING UPDATE: White House Briefly Locked Down as Trump Participates in Small Business Summit Amid Reports of Gunfire Nearby – Secret Service Shoots Man

The White House was put on lockdown amid reports of gunfire nearby on Monday afternoon.

Reporters were ushered into the press briefing room.

Newsmax host James Rosen said shots were fired at 15th and Independence.

Some White House reporters were confused as the Secret Service evacuated them from the North Lawn.

President Trump is currently participating in a small business summit at the White House.

Update: Secret Service shot an unidentified man who they thought had a gun.

“When the Secret Service officers confronted the man, it went sideways, and they ended up shooting him, sources in the Secret Service community told RealClearPolitics,” reporter Susan Crabtree said.

RealClearPolitics reported that the man is in custody and he did have a gun.

The Secret Service released a statement on Monday afternoon:

“U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown. Please avoid the area as emergency crews are responding.”

Monday’s security incident comes after 31-year-old Cole Allen stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton and opened fire at Secret Service agents at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last weekend.
