Former Republican New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the intensive care unit (ICU) after being hospitalized Sunday, his spokesman announced Wednesday.
Spokesman Ted Goodman said Giuliani, 81, will remain in the hospital to recover, but did not specify his illness in his most recent post. Officials said the former lawyer to President Donald Trump was recovering from pneumonia, according to WABC. Goodman also said Giuliani was recovering from pneumonia in a May 4 update, saying that the former mayor “ran toward the towers to help those in need” and later faced a restrictive airway disease diagnosis. “Mayor Giuliani is out of the ICU and will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital,” Goodman wrote. “The mayor and his family appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers sent his way. Mayor Giuliani—the man who took down the Mafia, saved New York City, and ran toward the towers on September 11th—is the same fighter he’s always been, and he’s winning this fight.”

“The power of prayer is working. The mayor feels it. We feel it. Please keep them coming for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani,” the spokesman continued.
A New Hampshire car accident seriously injured Giuliani in August 2025, his spokesman Michael Ragusa said at the time.
Giuliani was New York City’s mayor between 1994 and 2001. Giuliani also represented Trump as an attorney in multiple cases, including in lawsuits attempting to contest the 2020 election results. He was later disbarred permanently. Trump pardoned Giuliani in November 2025.
