DEVELOPING: Air Force B-52 Bomber Crashes Shortly After Takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base in California

A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base in California, on Monday.

Edwards Air Force Base is located in Southern California in Kern County.

The crash happened at 11:20 am local time.

Edwards Air Force Base said said the airfield is closed.

“The airfield has been closed, and all inbound aircraft are being diverted,” the air base said.

“All non-commercial visitor passes have been suspended until further notice to allow the installation to focus entirely on emergency response operations,” they said.

It is unclear what caused the crash.

Details and information about the crew have not been released.

Emergency responders rushed to the crash site as black smoke rose from the wreckage.
