New Video Shows DC Police Shoot Murder Suspect On Bus With Passengers Aboard

Newly released footage shows the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) shooting and killing a murder suspect on an occupied bus Tuesday morning.

The video, shared by independent journalist TheDMVLive late Wednesday night, shows what happened when the officer-involved shooting took place. (RELATED: Video Shows ICE Officer Spotting 6-Year-Old Floating Unconscious In Pool, Jumping Into Action)

It begins with a man in a D.C. Metro safety vest communicating with authorities as sirens can be heard nearby. The man can be seen speaking into his radio as authorities ask him to confirm whether a man fitting the description of a recent murder suspect is on board.

Moments later, an officer steps onto the bus, gun in hand, and approaches the suspect as many other riders begin to evacuate.

The officer, who moves closer to the suspect and blocks him from the camera, begins giving directions on how to comply.

“Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!” the officer yells as he takes steps back toward the front of the bus and fires multiple rounds at the suspect, who appears to be carrying a gun.

The suspect can be seen falling onto his seat as the shots are fired.

At the moment of the shooting, the bus was still occupied. Apart from the suspect and the officer, another officer appears to have been in the back of the bus after entering through the other door. Two men in safety vests are near the front of the bus, and it appears more people had been in the rear of the bus, including a passenger who had been sitting directly behind the suspect when the shots were fired.

The deceased suspect has been identified as 44-year-old D.C. resident Shawn Dewayne Williams, who had been connected to the murder of 44-year-old Melissa Wallace-Pulliam, whose body was discovered early Tuesday morning after a report of a shooting, according to an MPD statement.

Officers were told the suspect had last been seen boarding a Metro bus before locating him.

The statement said officers discharged their weapons only after the suspect brandished a handgun.

MPD said Williams was pronounced dead at the scene and that preliminary investigations indicate the incident was domestic-related.

Wallace-Pulliam’s daughter told WUSA9 that her mother had recently left a years-long relationship that had been “abusive since day one.”

The daughter said Wallace-Pulliam had recently gotten a new apartment and was heading to her new job when she was attacked.

“I never in my wildest dreams would think that my mother would get killed at a bus stop, just trying to move on with her life,” the daughter said. “She was on a new path, and she was happy where she was.”

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, according to MPD policy, the statement said.
