The White House said President Joe Biden‘s campaign will pay for political travels as Biden spends the day raising money in the Boston area and attending an event with a Grammy-winning artist.

“Anytime there’s political travel there are a set of federal regulations that govern the cost-sharing, and so today’s travel is certainly being paid for in full compliance with federal regulations,” spokeswoman Olivia Dalton told reporters Tuesday on Air Force One.

The cost-sharing arrangement is worked out by the White House’s Office of the General Counsel, according to Dalton.

Simultaneously, Dalton downplayed changes to Biden’s schedule as the 2024 general election intensifies, six weeks before the Republican primary‘s Iowa caucuses.

“You can expect to see there are going to be some days where the president has all official travel. There’ll be some days it’s all political travel. There’ll be some days where it’s a mix of both things,” she said. “That’s just going to be the natural course of things.”

Dalton also defended Biden attending three fundraisers as Congress contends with Ukraine funding and immigration reform, in addition to the prospect of a presidential impeachment inquiry vote.

“The president is president wherever he is,” she said. “Some of you might have been with him over Thanksgiving when you ended up having three press conferences over the holiday weekend on the news breaking on hostage deals, the calls to heads of state.”

Biden’s first fundraiser will be in Weston, Massachusetts, at lunchtime before afternoon and evening finance events in Boston, including a campaign concert with singer-songwriter James Taylor.
