Washington state residents could qualify for an additional tax credit this year thanks to the Washington Working Families Tax Credit, or WFTC.

The WFTC is a new sales tax rebate that helps Washingtonian families who pay a disproportionate amount of their income in taxes. The rebate is aimed at assisting hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians, and people must meet some eligibility requirements.

Those requirements include having lived in Washington a minimum of 183 days in 2022, being at least 25 years old and under 65, or having a qualifying child in 2022. Washingtonians must have filed a 2022 federal tax return and be eligible to claim the federal Earned Income Tax Credit on that tax return. A valid Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number will also be required upon filing, which must be done by Dec. 31. Applications began on Feb. 1 and run through the end of this year.
