The Senate unanimously voted to approve over 400 military nominations held up by Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-AL) blockade.
The promotions had been held up for several months, prompting a showdown in the Senate as many Republicans began to waver. Tuberville announced he was halting his block on promotions for three-star generals and under after months of intense and growing pressure. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) quickly called a vote for the over 400 stalled promotions, which were approved by all members.

While celebrating the vote, Schumer took the opportunity to condemn Tuberville once again.
“Hundreds — hundreds — of military families across the country can breathe a sigh of relief,” he said following the vote. He denounced the blockade as a “pointless and gravely damaging ordeal.”
“Let this incident be a warning: No one — no one — should attempt this in the Senate again,” Schumer added.

Tuberville stood by his actions.
“We fought hard,” he said. “We did the right thing for the unborn and for our military, fighting back against executive overreach and an abortion policy.”
