Biden losing young voters to Trump as he falls behind in two swing states

President Joe Biden is behind former President Donald Trump in two critical swing states, with particularly damning numbers among young voters who are increasingly disillusioned by the former.

In new CNN polls conducted by SSRS, Trump bested Biden in both Georgia and Michigan, swing states won by the president in the same matchup during the 2020 election. Not only did he beat the president overall, but Trump defeated Biden among young voters in each state, a demographic that has consistently been a Democratic stronghold.

In Georgia, voters under 45 years old chose Trump by a margin of 50% to 40%. He also won over the group in Michigan, where he beat Biden 49% to 38%.

This comes as some sound the alarm about the 81-year-old Biden’s performance with younger voters. While Biden boasts over 90% of support among Democratic voters and independents who lean Democratic over the age of 45, that number falls to 78% in Michigan and 80% in Georgia as he struggles to relate to younger people.

According to the polls, more than half of the younger age group in both Michigan and Georgia don’t think the president has the qualities they’re seeking in a president, with 57% and 56% saying so, respectively. Sixty percent in Michigan and 56% in Georgia also don’t believe Biden can understand the unique problems they face.

Additionally, Biden lacks the sharpness and stamina they’re looking for, according to 69% of young voters in Michigan and 66% in Georgia.

While Trump is just a few years younger than Biden at 77 years old, the demographic group is less dismayed by him, and he performs better than Biden in these metrics.

However, when it comes to temperament, Trump is more of a concern to the group. In Michigan, 57% said Trump doesn’t have the correct temperament for the presidency while 58% say so in Georgia. Roughly half of respondents in the demographic said Biden similarly does not have the temperament for the job.
