Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized a haul of narcotics in Texas valued at $1.3 million.

Officers assigned to the Eagle Pass International Bridge on Wednesday made the seizure after coming into contact with a citizen of the United States who attempted to enter from Mexico in a vehicle, according to a Monday release from CBP.

“The vehicle was selected for further examination,” the release read. “Following non-intrusive inspection system and K-9 inspections, CBP officers discovered 71 packages concealed within a non-factory compartment in the roof and floor area of the vehicle.”

Inside the packages, authorities discovered at least 142.85 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, CBP said.

“Officers in the passenger environment interdicted and seized more than a million dollars in alleged methamphetamine,” Pete Beattie, the port director for the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, said.

“CBP remains committed to its border security mission while effectively facilitating lawful trade and travel,” Beattie said.
