Jim Jordan questions Hunter Biden’s comment on father’s financial involvement

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said Thursday that a new comment from Hunter Biden puts the House’s investigation into the president and his son into a new light, noting that the younger Biden said his father was not “financially” involved.

Hunter Biden stated on Wednesday that his father, President Joe Biden, was not “financially involved” in his business dealings, including business deals made with foreign nations like China. The statement, Jordan argued, is different from what the president has said previously, which was that he was not involved at all, noting that the distinction between no involvement and no financial involvement is “important.”

“Again, remember the pattern,” Jordan said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “Initially, Joe Biden said, ‘I had no involvement whatsoever, none at all with my son’s business.’ This summer when we deposed Devon Archer, one of Hunter Biden’s business partners, the story changed, ‘Well, there are dinners, there were meetings, there were phone calls, but we just talked about the weather. There was no business talk.’ Now it’s to ‘he wasn’t involved financially.'”

The Ohio congressman said that the “fundamental question” was what Hunter Biden was offering to his foreign business partners, and that what the younger Biden had been offering was “access” to the then-vice president, “the guy who had influence.”

Jordan and Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, had subpoenaed Hunter Biden to sit for a deposition before the Oversight Committee on Wednesday. However, instead of attending the deposition, the president’s son gave a public statement to the press in Washington, D.C., with the two Republican congressmen initiating the process of holding him in contempt.

The rare appearance by Hunter Biden in the Capitol was described as “political theater at its best” by former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.

The House’s investigation into Hunter Biden is part of an impeachment inquiry into the president. Amid the inquiry, the president has slammed Republicans for “ignoring pressing challenges,” such as the war in Ukraine, immigration, and the war between Israel and Hamas.
