White House shoots down rumors about Biden and Harris being split over major 2024 issue

The White House rejected details in a report that Vice President Kamala Harris has pushed President Joe Biden and others in the administration to show more public concern for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Three unnamed sources familiar with the matter told Politico that Harris has urged White House officials, including Biden, to be more outwardly sensitive to the Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.

One source close to the vice president’s office told the outlet Harris wants the United States to be tougher on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and would like the nation to be “more forceful at seeking a long-term peace and two-state solution.”

International outrage has increased as the civilian death toll in Gaza rises, while Biden has given his unequivocal support for Israel.

Since Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel on Oct. 7, Israeli officials imposed a “complete siege” on the enclave, preventing aid groups from delivering food, water, and other supplies. More than 18,400 people have been killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry in the Hamas-run territory, and 1,200 were killed in the terrorist attack, according to Israeli officials.

Harris’s office restated its refusal of the story after Politico published it, reusing a statement included in the original article.

Kirsten Allen, Harris’s press secretary, wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that “there is no daylight between the President and Vice President nor has there been.”

Allen added, “Media should be cautious and discerning about including anonymous ‘sources’ who are not privy to their private conversations.”

Speaking at the White House’s daily press briefing, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby repeated the office’s rejection of the story, echoing Allen’s comments that there’s not “some sort of daylight” between Harris and Biden.

Kirby said the White House rejected “the basic premise of the story, that there’s some sort of daylight between the vice president and the president,” when pressed by a Fox News reporter.

“I found the headline of the story interesting, that the vice president is pushing the White House to, you fill in the blank,” he added, the headline of the piece being “Kamala Harris pushes White House to be more sympathetic toward Palestinians.”

“Last I looked, the vice president is part of the White House. She’s part of the team. And if she wasn’t offering her advice and counsel to the president on innumerable issues, that would be a story,” Kirby said. “Her job is to provide advice and counsel to the president.”
