Alaska residents will be able to apply for the state’s Permanent Fund Dividend program in 17 days, when applications open for 2024.

The program offers a direct payment each year based on the state’s mineral revenues for that year. The applications are open from Jan. 1 to March 31 of each year for the annual program.

To receive a dividend from the program, a resident must apply during the application window, even if the recipient received a payment from the program in the past.

To qualify for the program, an applicant must be an Alaska resident who intends to remain a resident of the state indefinitely and is not a convicted felon, among other requirements.

Those who do not file by the March 31 deadline may be eligible for an exemption, and further information can be found on the Alaska Department of Revenue’s website. The applications can be filled out either online or through a paper form. The status of an application can also be checked on the department’s website.

The 2023 Permanent Fund Dividend amount was $1,312 and began going out to eligible residents in October.

“This year, we processed over 8,000 more applications than in 2022,” Alaska Department of Revenue Commissioner Adam Crum said in a statement about the 2023 payment. “The 2023 PFD will inject nearly $1 billion into the state’s economy and directly into the hands of Alaskans.”
