Soros-backed district attorney under fire for releasing man with seven DUIs charged in the death of two

A man who committed his seventh DUI, and is charged as involved in the death of two people, has been released after his charges and bond were reduced, sparking outrage against Jose Garza, the Soros-funded district attorney overseeing Travis County, Texas.

Roberto Rangel, 52, allegedly pulled out of a Chick-fil-A parking lot and parked his car sideways on the road in the middle of the night last December. A motorcycle slammed into Rangel’s vehicle, killing both Kate Garcia, 22, and Mark Narvaez, 23.

OATH OF OFFICE: DID BIDEN FULFILL HIS PROMISE TO RESTORE THE ECONOMY?

“It’s crazy,” Dennis Farris, president of the Austin Police Retired Officers Association, told the Washington Examiner. “My experience is when you let somebody out of jail with no consequences … he’s going to do it again. There’s no question. He’s an alcoholic.”

“What sane person would reduce charges against a person who was arrested for their SIXTH DUI?” Save Austin Now co-founder Matt Mackowiak said to the Washington Examiner. “Garza’s refusal to prosecute dangerous criminals is enabling habitual offenders like this one and needlessly creating hundreds of crime victims whose lives are forever altered by his disastrous policies.”

Earlier this year, Rangel’s charge was reduced from a DUI to a DWI, his bond dropped from $100,000 to $10,000, and his requirement to carry a portable alcohol monitor was removed.

Before the tragedy last December, Rangel was charged with a DWI six other times dating back to 1989, when he was 17 years old.

Farris told the Washington Examiner that in his experience, Rangel having been “caught seven times tells me he’s probably driven drunk well over 300.”

Farris said that this kind of case is not exclusive to Garza, and pointed to Soros-funded district attorneys in other cities with similar controversies surrounding them.

“They decided that the criminals are the victims. And the cops are criminals,” the 30-year Austin police veteran said.

Garza has come under national criticism since he was elected for being too hard on police officers while being too soft on crime, and he was the subject of controversy over efforts to prosecute 17 officers who responded to the violent Black Lives Matter riots of 2020.

He has also faced legal action for “abusing our grand jury system to indict police officers” and selectively withholding evidence from grand juries relating to law enforcement investigations.

“We created GarzaWatch.com in September to monitor the DA’s actions and to conduct research to consider filing a petition for removal, with a new state law that took effect Sept. 1, 2023,” Mackowiak told the Washington Examiner.

“Jose Garza’s reign of terror is nearing an end,” Mackowiak said.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the office of Jose Garza for comment.
