No laughing matter: Biden just gave one of his final interviews of 2023 — and it was to a comedian

President Joe Biden spoke to comedian Conan O’Brien in a rare interview for the commander in chief, who has often talked with unorthodox personalities rather than news programs.

In the interview for O’Brien’s SiriusXM podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, recorded last week but released on Wednesday, the pair discussed a variety of topics, including the war in Ukraine and O’Brien’s hair.

While discussing supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia, Biden suggested that “the other guy,” an apparent nod to leading 2024 GOP presidential candidate former President Donald Trump, claims that “we can work” with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that Trump believes Putin is “smart.”

The innuendo for Trump caused O’Brien to ask Biden to compare him to a fictional character whose name was avoided — Voldemort from the Harry Potter books.

“He’s like Voldemort now: His name shall not be mentioned,” O’Brien said, to which Biden responded, “Well, good point. I plead guilty.”

The two also discussed embarrassing things people face when growing up, talking about Biden’s stutter in his childhood and O’Brien’s “weird hair” and “weird name,” prompting Biden to say he wishes he had O’Brien’s hair.

“I wish I had your hair. I’d trade you right now if you want,” Biden joked.

“You want this hair? It comes off, Velcroes in the back,” O’Brien responded.

“If I could do it, I would do it,” Biden said.

“I will mail you this wig tomorrow,” O’Brien told the president.

Biden has done fewer interviews than most presidents in recent history, and several of his interviews have been on less conventional programs. In the past year, Biden has appeared on programs as different as CBS News’s 60 Minutes and the Drew Barrymore Show hosted by the actress of which the program is named.
