Lance Armstrong has more than $100,000 worth of bikes stolen from storage unit

The Austin Police Department claims two men were involved in a robbery of six bikes that belonged to cyclist Lance Armstrong.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KXAN, Shaun Thompson, 36, and Ethan Harms, 33, allegedly stole from Armstrong’s ExtraSpace Storage Unit between Dec. 10 and 12. Police officers recognized the pair in security footage from other robberies of storage units and apartments. They are accused of stealing four racing bikes, a road bike, and a gravel bike that were between 20 years old and brand new.

Thompson and Harms are facing third-degree felony charges due to the price of the stolen merchandise, per the affidavit. The two men could face sentences of between two and 10 years if found guilty.

Days before the incident, APD said there had been an “increase in the number of reported burglaries involving storage unit facilities.” The statement discouraged residents from storing firearms, ammunition, collectibles, sentimental items, or anything that contains personal identifying information.

“The Burglary Unit highly recommends that storage unit customers consider purchasing rental insurance for items stored. Rental insurance can often help replace items that may have been stolen or damaged,” the statement read.

Armstrong was a legend in cycling until he admitted to doping and had several awards removed, including an Olympic bronze medal and an honorary degree.
