Archbishop of New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan stated Sunday that “God is with us” is the hope that we can rest in this Christmas, even through the darkness many face this year.

Dolan explained that Catholics typically use the term “good news” and that Jesus Christ becoming human on Christmas Day was the good news “incarnate.” The archbishop went on to state that God loved His creation so much that “the divine became human.”

“God became man; our Jewish neighbors have a beautiful phrase, Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us,'” Dolan explained on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “That is the Christmas message. He’s so immersed in our condition, God isn’t about to give up on his most noble project of all.”

The archbishop went on to state that it is “a tough time out there” amid all the discouraging news happening in the world. However, he added that “God has seen us through” another year.

“Emmanuel, God is with us. That’s the Christmas hope that we need,” Dolan said. “And I think we are eager to hear it this year.”

Dolan concluded his message by stating that he does see people who are “at their wit’s end” at this time of year but added that he more often sees people who have “recovered a sense of faith,” wishing all those watching a merry Christmas.
