Trump ballot challenges are beneficial for him because he’s a ‘professional victim’: Adam Kinzinger

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger called former president Donald Trump a “professional victim, a professional whiner and bellyacher” in a TV interview on Friday.

Kinzinger, a Republican who spent 12 years representing Illinois in Congress, appeared on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront to offer his thoughts on the recent decisions to remove Trump from ballots in Colorado and Maine.

WHY 14TH AMENDMENT EFFORT TO OUST TRUMP COULD BACKFIRE ON DEMOCRATS

Host Brianna Keilar asked Kinzinger if, politically speaking, Trump’s Republican primary opponents had any choice but to back the former president and support his inclusion on the ballot.

The former lawmaker said no, explaining that doing the opposite would not help candidates gain any ground on the front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

“If you’re running against the guy to beat him, and you just come out and say that these cases are the way to get rid of Donald Trump, I think it makes you look weak,” Kinzinger said. “I think it does not help you with the base, doesn’t help you with the election.”

Although the decisions in Colorado and Maine are just the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the former president, Kinzinger said he thinks it is all the more beneficial for him.

“I think this is probably good for Donald Trump politically because he’s a professional victim, a professional whiner and bellyacher, and this allows him to feed more into that ‘he’s such a poor victim’ narrative,” Kinzinger said.
