Joe Biden says ‘biggest’ New Year’s resolution is to return to tropical vacation spot

President Joe Biden said Saturday that his “biggest” wish for the upcoming year is to head back to the Caribbean island vacation destination of St. Croix, where he spent the holidays with his family.

As several crises continue both at home in America and abroad, Biden was asked by a reporter what his New Year’s resolution was for 2024.

“To come back next year,” he responded.

He was pressed on any other resolutions but said, “That’s the biggest one right there.”

Biden acknowledged the luxe vacation to reporters, joking, “I know you guys hate this assignment down here. I’m sorry to bring you down here.”

He made the comments while accompanying first lady Jill Biden and his granddaughter Natalie Biden to dinner at a seafood restaurant on the island, Too.Chez. The president spoke to several other customers during his visit and seemed to receive multiple rounds of applause from patrons.

As the president spent his holiday vacation in St. Croix, the Republican-affiliated account called RNC Research noted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that Biden has spent 417 days of his presidency thus far on vacation. According to the account, this is equivalent to “39% of his presidency.”

According to the Daily Mail, President Donald Trump was on vacation for 381 days of his term in comparison. Former President Barack Obama spent 328 days on vacation over the course of two terms and eight years, which adds up to less than half of those for either Biden or Trump per term.

Former President George W. Bush, though, was vacationing from the White House for 1,020 days over his two four-year terms.

Biden has been particularly scrutinized over his days away from the office, however. Critics specifically point to a variety of pressing issues including the state of the southern border and illegal immigration, as well as the wars raging on in Ukraine and Israel.

“President Biden’s entire presidency has been a vacation from reality — 760,000 illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border since October,” Chairman of the House GOP Policy Committee Gary Palmer (R-AL) said recently.

Reporters asked Biden in St. Croix about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to which he responded, “I speak to him regularly.”

Biden didn’t respond to an additional question about Maine‘s Secretary of State claiming Trump is ineligible for the 2024 ballot in the state. The pool reporter noted it was “unclear” whether the president heard the prompt.

The White House did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.
