Harvard Corporation senior fellow Penny Pritzker will stay in her position, resisting calls to resign, a Harvard spokesperson announced.
Pritzker’s position gives her the greatest single say over the selection of Harvard’s next president, a position she does not appear ready to give up, according to the Harvard Crimson. Calls for her to resign have risen following the resignation of Harvard’s 30th president, Claudine Gay, after a disastrous congressional testimony on antisemitism and increased scrutiny over allegations of plagiarism.

Pritzker was elected to the board in 2018 and given her current senior fellow position in 2022, going on to lead the presidential search for Gay. Her retaining of the position suggests she will lead the search for Harvard’s 31st president as well.
Given her refusal to resign, Pritzker is now likely to face scrutiny regarding the transparency of the presidential search process. Gay was expected to hold her position for more than a decade, according to the outlet, but instead achieved the record of the shortest term in the position at Harvard.

Calls for Pritzker’s resignation come after former University of Pennsylvania President Elizabeth Magill found herself the target of similar criticism after appearing alongside Gay at the House hearing on antisemitism. Scott Bok, the university’s now former Board of Trustees chairman, resigned shortly after Magill’s resignation.
Pritzker is the sister of Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) and previously served as secretary of commerce in the Obama administration.
