Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) joked that voters do not trust President Joe Biden, not even with the simple task “to open a can of Pringles.”

The Louisiana senator appeared on a podcast Wednesday to discuss the current state of U.S. politics when the subject shifted to the Colorado Supreme Court removing former President Donald Trump from the ballot for 2024. Kennedy stated that he believes the Supreme Court will ultimately reverse the decision, and that the initial move to remove Trump only helps him. Kennedy was also asked about statements made by Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), who has said the Colorado Supreme Court is allowed to remove the former president.

“Well, you know, Chris is a good guy,” Kennedy said on The Hugh Hewitt Show. “He’s a friend of mine. We just don’t agree, and he’s got to toe the party line. And he’s close to President Biden. And you know, right now, the American people wouldn’t trust President Biden to open a can of Pringles. I mean, that’s how low his numbers are.”

Kennedy went on to state that Coons backing the Colorado Supreme Court is his attempt to help Biden, as “that’s politics.” However, he added that Coons is “not going to fool the American people” with his statements, as the public recognizes when “their justice system is being politicized.”

“And that’s why President Biden’s poll numbers are on a journey to the center of the earth,” Kennedy said.

Biden’s polling numbers decreased noticeably last year, going from 46% approval in January 2023 to 40% in November. Trump, who lost to Biden in 2020, had an approval rating of 44% around the same time of his presidency.

Trump is running for president again in 2024 and filed a petition to the Supreme Court on Wednesday asking the justices to reverse the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision. The appeal comes after the state’s Republican Party asked the nation’s highest court to overturn the decision last week.
