MTG suggests Eric Swalwell broke law by helping Hunter Biden

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) claimed that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) might have broken the law last month when he helped Hunter Biden deliver statements after the first son defied a congressional subpoena and skipped an expected deposition.

Greene reiterated that the House Oversight Committee is focused on investigating President Joe Biden and the first son’s allegedly illicit business dealings, but the GOP firebrand also said “one of our House colleagues,” Swalwell, needs to be talked to because he “probably broke federal law” by assisting the younger Biden.

“While Hunter Biden continues dodging Congressional oversight, we’ll keep pursuing his business partners to get answers about his and his family’s shady foreign deals,” Greene posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. “But we’re also interested in Eric Swalwell, who seemed very involved and probably broke federal law by helping Hunter Biden disobey his subpoena.”

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee subpoenaed Hunter Biden to appear before the committee for a private deposition, but he denied the request, instead pushing for a public hearing. When the committee rejected the public hearing, he staged public remarks of his own — appearing outside the Capitol to respond to the committee’s allegations just 10 minutes after his deposition was scheduled.

Swalwell accompanied the president’s son as he gave his remarks and helped to organize the press conference. House Oversight had subpoenaed the younger Biden as part of the impeachment inquiry into his father, claiming that he is a key witness who could provide information on whether the elder Biden abused his power during his time as vice president.

“Chairman [James] Comer … asked for Hunter Biden to come testify,” Swalwell said last month. “He said publicly or privately. Hunter said, ‘Well, let’s do it publicly.’ Hunter’s here. And so, to Chairman Comer, I say, ‘What are you afraid of hearing from?’ It sounds like the only reason you would want to do this privately is if you don’t have the goods.”

Greene said she would follow up on Hunter Biden’s business dealings with Swalwell but did not lay out a specific timeline for when to expect the president’s son to testify.

The House has formalized its impeachment inquiry into the president, which focuses on three key points: Whether Joe Biden improperly used his position of power to enrich himself and his family, whether he used his influence to pressure the Department of Justice to help his son avoid criminal charges, and how involved he was in his family’s foreign business dealings.
