Verdict: Misleading

The homes are for a different purpose and were not built specifically for displaced Palestinians.

Fact Check:

Two far-right members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet said that Israel should push for the migration of Palestinians from Gaza, according to CBC News. These remarks were condemned by the U.S. and other countries, the outlet reported.

Social media users are sharing a video of mobile homes in the middle of the desert, claiming it shows homes being built for displaced Palestinians from Gaza.

“Please, Jordanians, complete cities for refugees from Gaza, who will be deported to Jordan with the knowledge and approval of His Majesty the King and in exchange for a very large amount of aid money. This is the first city and dozens of others are under construction, and as mentioned in the video, this is the Al-Kharana area in Azraq, 65 km east of Amman,” one post reads.

This, however, is misleading. The National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM) in Jordan denied the claim in a Dec. 26 thread on X. The NCSCM said that the shelter in the video was established “with the aim of dealing with scenarios.”

“The center explained in response to questions from the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the site, which has been in operation since the middle of this year, aims to test national capabilities in response and rescue operations,” the NCSCM’s X thread reads in part. “These steps, according to the center, is one of the measures taken in the wake of disasters and crises in the region, including the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Morocco, with the aim of learning lessons and preparing in advance for them, as an earthquake simulation exercise was carried out this year under the name (Safety Path 3),” the NCSCM X thread continues.

MisBar reported that the NCSCM “clarified that the mobile homes shown in the video, located in the Al-Azraq area, close to Al-Harrana Palace, have been under construction since the middle of the current year as part of a national strategic plan to mitigate risks, including crises and natural disasters.”
