Hunter Biden contempt of Congress hearings scheduled for Wednesday

House Oversight and Judiciary committees announced the first hearings to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress will take place on Wednesday.

The hearings were anticipated after the president’s son defied a subpoena to sit for a deposition in December and instead read a statement to media outside the Capitol saying he would only testify in a public committee hearing, not in a closed-door deposition.

“Hunter Biden’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoenas constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants referral to the appropriate United States Attorney’s Office for prosecution,” Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said in a joint statement. “We will not provide him with special treatment because of his last name.”

Both the Judiciary and Oversight committees will hold separate but concurrent hearings on the contempt resolution.
